The basics of Search engine optimization says that you must be good with your title and meta tags as they are the one which is crawled by search engine crawlers. You must have to be good at it which helps you to get the deserved result. In this follow up article with the one I had last time about managing keywords, I will be explaining some basics of title and meta tags and as usual I hope you will like it!

Title Tags
Title and meta tags plays an important role in SEO of a blog. An HTML tag with text describing a specific Web page which are written under <title> tag are called as title tags. Usually , these tags contain relevant description and keywords which describes what the current page is all about.
These tags can’t be seen on the page but surely are visible to search engine crawlers which helps them to crawl your page according to the description. Title tags are the words that appear at the very top of your web browser, and they tell the search engine what the page is about.
Below are some wise usage of these tags :
- Use your top keywords in your title tags
- Keep the title tag as simple as possible and as short as possible (less than 10 characters)
- Now if its short, you must not repeat the keywords you use.
Meta Tags
After having a good title tags and description, there comes meta tags. Meta elements are HTML or XHTML elements used to provide structured metadata about a Web page. Such elements must be placed as tags in the head section of an HTML or XHTML document.
Found in the source code (or invisible background) of each web page. Meta tags are sets of instructions and/or identifiers for search engine spiders to read which describe the content that is included on your web page. Try to create good meta tags and description ofr each page and posts.
You may use Robots meta, Headspace or All in one SEO plugin for these task which are quite helpful. You may also create them manually. For example :
<meta name=”description” content=”Search engine optimization”>
<meta name=”keywords” content=”Search engine optimization, SEO “>
Try to use different meta description and keywords for different pages. Using the same description on all pages might diminish the importance as it is said by some SEO professionals. I’m not a pro so I can just advice you.
Stop Words
Search engines categorize the pages containing certain keywords as offensive or not useful to the reader. There are some words which are not advised to use in your description of title tags or meta tags, these words are called as poison words or stop words.
There are many common words which search engine crawlers does not prefer to crawl those words. To know the list of all those words, click here.

Optimizing your title tags is very important in a SEO campaign as it provides better visibility for your website. So, keep in mind that you must present such tags properly for an effective optimization.

Meta keywords may not be as important as they used to be, but meta descriptions are still king when it comes to looking good in SERPs. You did well in reminding everyone, Rahul.
