How To Have A Mashable Like Floating Sharebar For Your Blog

If you are a blogger than I am sure that you must have visited Mashable at least once while surfing and while surfing, you must have been to their post page and have seen the floating bar they have for social bookmarking. Ever tried to change the resolution and check that bar ? well, if you change the resolution to 800*600, it auto-adjusts itself below the article title. Great, isn’t it ? Well, I have come across the same plugin which can be used to do this work. So here I go !

Before finding this great plugin, I used several plugins which were almost the same but the problem was while opening the site in low resolution. If you are a regular reader of this blog and your resolution is around 1000, then you must have noticed it before and many of my other readers advised me to change or remove that floating bar and then i started looking for such a Mashable type sidebar which gets adjust automatically according to the resolution or size.

The plugin which i have been referring above is named Sharebar. It is an amazing plugin and a must have plugin for your WordPress blog.

Features

  1. Allows to change almost any setting you want.
  2. Clean setting page.
  3. You can change the button order, edit the button code or delete them.
  4. You can also add a new button.
  5. You can also call an individual button in any template by using the code given.
  6. You can reset the buttons to by default at any time
  7. Adjusts automatically to horizontal position if the page size is less than 1000px.

I recommend and surely suggest you that this is a must have plugin for your WordPress blog !

  1. This is great, but too bad there isn’t one like it for blogger blogs.

Franklin’s post has something similar, but it doesn’t have it so it moves under the title if the resolution is too small.

Currently, I have something like this on my blog, and mine has a Hide / Show button so at least if their resolution is too small, they can hide the share buttons.

If I found something exactly like this for blogger, where the resolution changes where the box shows up, that’d be awesome.

    1. But i would like to ask that why not moving to wordpress from blogger? ?? πŸ™‚

      1. It’s like moving to a different country. I could do it, but I’m comfortable where I am and would rather stick with the way things are.

I did however remove the share bar from the sides of my posts and created something different that I call the “Magic Share Button”

Check out my recent post and click it to see what I’m talking about πŸ˜€

  2. I am using the above mentioned Share Bar plug-in. Its nice and I am having no problem.

There are few more plug-ins like Digg Digg and Smart Sharing (from wpbeginner) which do the same. Digg Digg is a good contender for the Share Bar plug-in and its has more social network support by default.

    1. i used smart sharing but as i have mentioned above in the post, it had problems in low resolution.. it was over lapping with the article so readers didn’t like it and suggested to remove or change it ! i have not tried digg digg yet and there is a new plugin available even from addthis ! so check it out too.

  3. This was what I was looking for. There were various other tutorials on getting a robust floating sidebar plugin that is immune to screen resolution changes, but they were of no good. Thanks for the find!

    1. Hello again, I’m trying to install it locally (for testing) using XAMPP and I keep getting this error message below when I try to activate this plugin in WordPress admin plugin panel.

“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in C:\XAMPP\xampp\htdocs\wordpress3\wordpress\wp-content\plugins\sharebar\sharebar.php on line 157”

      What could it be?

      Thanks in advance!

  7. I'm having trouble with the counter on it. It works when I tweet a post or like it, but then when I refresh the page, the counter resets. Same thing just happened when I "liked" your post with the sharebar to the left.
