Back in August 2010, there was a buzz going around the world about Facebook launching its check-in service called Facebook places and now as I noticed today just out of my curiosity, surprisingly I noticed it working for my region and came to know that the service is finally rolling out in India as well. This is just a quick post I’m writing about how it works and a brief explanation about it. Do drop in your views about this innovative by Facebook and let me know what you think about it.
I have done this using my HTC Desire HD which is having Android 2.2 with Facebook for android application installed. To make it work, all you have to do is to open your Facebook for Android application and select Places from the menu given on the screen. When I tried doing that, I saw some of my friends’ check-ins and then I was given an option to “check-in”. Clicking on it led me to what’s given below which was showing nearby places.
I had already added my place before clicking the above picture. I typed something in search and it asked me if I want to add a place. Below is the result after clicking on it.
After adding the place, I was asked if I want to check-in to that place. I checked in and this is what I got as a result.
As you can see in the above image, It allows you to tag your friends who is with you at the place you are checking in at and you can even add the photos of that places. Finally, this is how it looked on Facebook web.
I would say that it is quite a nice and neat service as far as I have tested and it is working fine. Just tried out of curiosity so I’m liking it for the time being but have to wait and watch if Indian users will like it or not. As I know, Facebook application is available with places only for iPhone and Android users so you might see some lack of interest in this service from Indian users.
What’s your take on this? Will you be using it?
